Ready Mixed Concrete

Ready mixed concrete refers to blended concrete to be delivered from a central plant instead of being mixed on site. Each batch of ready mixed concrete is especially manufactured to the needs of the customer and is delivered to the contractor in cylindrical trucks, these cylindrical trucks are commonly known as cement mixers, in a plastic form. The ready mixed concrete which provides many convenience for the consumer, is also very useful and considerably convenient for useage.

Basic Indigrents of ready mixed concrete

There are three basic ingredients in the ready mixed concrete. They are listed below.

  • Portland Cement
  • Water
  • Aggregates(rock and sand)

Portland Cement: The cement and water form a paste that coats the aggregate and sand in the mix. The paste hardens and binds the aggregates and sand together.

Water: Water is needed to chemically react with the cement (hydration) and too provide workability with the concrete.

Aggregates: Sand is the fine aggregate for ready mixed concrete. Gravel or crushed stone is the coarse aggregate in most mixes that use for ready mixed concrete.

Desired Properties of Concrete

  1. The concrete mix should be workable: It can be placed and consolidated properly by customer or workmen.
  2. Desired qualities of the hardened concrete should be met: for example, resistance to freezing and thawing and deicing chemicals, watertightness (low permeability) , wear resistance, and strength. Customer should know that they are trying to achieve with the concrete.
  3. Economy: Since the quality depends mainly on the water to cement ratio, the water requirement should be minimized to reduce the cement requirement (and thus reduce the cost).
